Isolation per host

Ted Vinke
Hi!

Is there an overview of what exactly can be defined pér host and what is
shared between hosts?

Structures seem globally for every host, but it's content can be added
per host? If I wanted to have a News structure for host1 and the same
News structure for host2 PLUS 1 field, do I need to copy the original
New structure then to a "Host2 News" structure and make my adjustments?
E.g. each host its own variant of each structure?

When I create a template "Homepage" for host1 and a different one also
named "Homepage" for host2, they are both visible when creating a new
page for host1. Is this normal default behaviour?

Isn't this a bit of a drawback, since it's confusing which "Homepage" to
select in the selectbox since there are 2 with the same name. Should I
prefix them with the hostname to recognise them easily?

I'd like to isolate as much as possible per defined host; what is the
recommended way of doing this? Any best practices?

Regards, Ted

Ted,

Everything is shareable between hosts, you can hide a lot of it from users
using permissions.

About this question:

They are visible based on permissions, but I'm not sure what select box you
are referring to?

Thanks
Maria

Re: Isolation per host

Ted Vinke
Hi Maria,

Thx. I mean the Edit HTML page, see attached screenshot.

I've defined a "Homepage" template seperately for each of the 2 hosts I
definied in dotCMS. Since I've got all the rights I'm seeing every
template present in the system.

It would be a nice feature if I could mark a template "designated host
only" or something - when I'm creating a page for host1 I can only
select templates created for host1.

Regards, Ted

Re: Isolation per host

Maria Ahues Bouza
Hi Ted,

You can assign hosts to a template but then we don't show the template's
host when you are choosing a template in the Edit HTML page. That would be
an easy improvement if you want to add it in JIRA, we'll see if our internal
committee thinks it's useful and we'll add it for 1.6.

Another solution and it's what I've seen we do is use the host name on the
template name like:

Host 1 - Homepage
Host 2 - Homepage

Thanks
Maria

Re: Isolation per host

Jim Serio-2
In reply to this post by Ted Vinke
I have the same question. Hopefully, I'll have a better understanding of
user permissions next week but it would be nice that people only see what
they have permission to. Right now, they can see everything - which I fear
may be overwhelming to some people.

Thanks for the reply! The latter would be the most comfortable solution
right now I think.

I will add it as a proposed feature in JIRA.
