dotCMS 1.9 Developer Preview now available

wezell-2
Administrator
We are pleased to announce a developer preview of the upcoming dotCMS 1.9.
This developer preview is almost feature complete - the only thing missing
is URL masking on a per structure basis. The 1.9 dev preview can be
downloaded here:

http://www.dotcms.org/products/downloads/19-preview-download.dot<%20http://www.dotcms.org/products/downloads/19-preview-download.dot>

There have been literally thousands of code improvements and additions.
Here is a short and very incomplete list of some major changes:

   - Completely revamped User Interface (based on the Dojo .js lib)
   - Much Improved Multi-Site Management
   - CMIS Web Service Support
   - Interantionalizable Admin
   - Improved Permissioning, Permission Inheritance
   - Hosted based content
   - Form Builder Tool
   - Custom Content Fields
   - Binary Content Type
   - Removal of tons of popups for modal windows.
   - Syntax Highlighting on Code Editor
   - Hierarchical Roles
   - 1000's of improvements and bug fixes

Keep in mind the code is in late alpha/early beta state and not intended for
production use.  dotCMS 1.9 is undergoing QA as we speak and we will be
rolling out new builds as we knock off any major bugs.

Let us know about your experiences, make sure to report any bugs and enjoy!

Will

This is great to hear! Is there a strategy in place for 1.7 > 1.9
upgrades, or is this something that's on the roadmap?

Thank you!

Michiel,

I am going to be doing some testing shortly with our system to see just how intensive the upgrade will be, and I'll be passing on info as I learn it for everyone. The biggest issue I think most people will face is just making sure that the permissions upgrade runs properly.

What about velocity code that uses inodes to pull content? Now the inodes
will be different.

well they are a string now but we don't convert you old inodes to UUIDs.  We
only make the data now be of type string instead of number.

So to clarify, pulling content by an inode/identifier will still work post-migration with the (in our case) 7 digit number?
